MAINTENANCE OF CERTIFICATION
Ethics CME No Longer Specifically Required for MOC
Maintenance of Certification (MOC) is a lifelong learning and practice improvement process designed to help ophthalmologists stay up-to-date in knowledge, skills, and practice. In 2012, the ABO is launching a more streamlined MOC that will include a flexible menu of MOC activities, including CME activities that align with
six competencies deemed by the American Board of Medical Specialties and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education to be integral to providing quality patient care. The menu of activities will include topics such as Patient Safety and Communications.
The ABO still encourages all diplomates to pursue lifelong learning that includes professionalism topics such as ethics, however there is no longer a specific ethics CME requirement.
MOC Components Become Available in mid-February
2012 Maintenance of Certification activities will become available to diplomates in mid-February. Diplomates may login to their MOC Status Page to update profile information, but cannot register for or complete new activities at this time. MOC activities re-launch annually each February. Please contact the ABO Office with questions.
